Typoday 2016 was the ninth edition of a 3-day design conference whose main focus is typography in our day and age. Typoday has always focused on the use of typography, calligraphy, the introduction of vernacular languages and the use of typography in branding, design and other communication based products. The conference is a converging point for various designers, artists, students and professionals through talks, presentations, interactive workshops and initiatives taken up by various group of professionals from and outside the industry.
The objective of this project is to design the identity and related collaterals for Typoday 2016 keeping in mind the theme, 'Typography and Education'. The tone of the event can be described best as - interactive, aspirational, innovative, ground breaking, informative, scientific and experimental.
CONCEPT
Considering the theme of the event, 'Typography & Education', I compared the activity of solving a maze to our constant struggle at solving the various problems we face daily. The challenge in solving any maze is to first find the right approach and then take the right turns to find the shortest possible way to the goal. Education leads us in the right direction and helps us find the quickest solution to most of our problems in life. Keeping these points in mind I based my concept on a maze and developed a custom maze themed typeface for the main identity as well as the visual language.
